I didn’t know I would be blogging about our trip, but I didn’t know a lot coming into this trip. Paper schedules have done little for my understanding of what we will do. Even with the schedule, I can’t imagine what God has in store, so I am watching, waiting, trying to be attentive to His unfolding, for our team, for me.

The drive out was the normal middle school adventure – how on earth can an 11 hour trip create so much garbage in the back of one bus!!! Our first stop in Kansas it felt like stepping into a sauna while being blasted with a giant hair dryer on full speed. We have heard that we missed the cool, rainy spell. But, I’ll take hot and humid over using the tornado evasive driving maneuvers that I had researched on the internet.

We have been greeted so warmly here. The love of Jesus has been evident in those we’ve already begun to meet! Sunday morning started with joining a morning Bible Study primarily designed for new believers and we were reminded of the great joy and exuberance that comes from a deep trust in the Lord. It was a sweet moment to watch our middle school boys hug Judy and Linda, our two new friends who we will get to spend more time with later this week.

Service was a joyous occasion with two baptisms!  The baptismal is located high above the pulpit, like in a balcony, but just for the baptismal. It was cool for us to be in the service and experience something special with the Grace Point Baptist congregation.

Then we headed off to the Springs Aquatic Center to for a couple water slides, lazy river, and jumps off the diving boards. And of course, it isn’t complete without the typical boy splash attack on the girls. It may have started a prank war.

Sunday night we heard again from Pastor Athol, and the calling on his heart of Kansas City as his mission field.  It is very cool to be invited to participate in the work God is calling them into; we’ll get to hear from him again tonight! The evening concluded with a teaching from Cam! He shared his walk with Christ, and is helping us tell our own faith story, that we might be able to share it with those around us.

Today (Monday) begins the real work of serving.  We will start the morning at the Community Assistance Council (CAC) and doing some work at the CAC’s transitional housing facility. Please continue to pray for us to have listening ears. God is at work and I am blessed to be here, listening and loving others alongside these young followers of Christ.

Blessings,

Niecy
